NOTE!! - the "insert!" and the Tools features works only from within the engineeringtoolbox plug-in inside of SketchUp. Install the plugin/extension as described in the right column - restart Sketchup and open this tool from the Sketchup Plugins/Extensions menu.

- makes a component of the selected object. Note that all objects from the Engineering Toolbox are inserted as individual groups. You should transfer a group to a component sharing the same definition when there is more than one instance of the same object. Tips! Rename the object to its final name before making it a component (in outliner or with right click and entity info).

- move or copy (multiple) selected objects. Make advanced geometric constructions with multiple selections, multiple copies and the offset.
Tip! - Use "Make Component" to save space and reduce computer load when working with multiple copies.

cut! - before cut: customize the inserted Knife! The Knife is a group you can rotate, change the size of, and even add or remove objects within (example - add functional curves for advanced cuts). You can also make your own Knife by naming a group "theKnife". After insert and customizing the knife - positioning it to the object(s) where to cut - select the object(s) (must be groups) - and click cut! Afterwards - select the object(s) and remove the parts of the object(s) that you don't want.

move! - select two objects - then click "move" and one of the objects moves to the position and angle of the other object. Handy when moving between axis systems.
You can change the position and angle of an inserting object by pre-selecting an existing object before Insert! The inserted object will inherit the position of the selected object. Handy when working with non-default axis.

Select the "Extensions" or "Plugins" menu, and the "Engineering ToolBox" submenu - and a page like this one opens - and you are running!!
No internet? - offline use.
Note! that you can use the engineeringtoolbox.rb in Sketchup 8 too. Save it to the plugins folder as described below.
Windows user! Be aware that some browsers in windows saves the plugin file engineeringtoolbox.rb with a .txt extension. The extension must be changed to .rb.
Note! The SketchUp plugins directory is located somewhere similar to
on newer Sketchup editions, and
"C:\Program files\Google\Google SketchUp XX\Plugins"
on older Sketchup editions on Windows computers. Note that AppData is a hidden folder - available if you write the folder name in in the adress field in Windows explorer.

If you have problems with the saving permissions to the folder - try to download the file to your download folder - open two file manager windows - and drag the file from the download folder to the plugin folder. Change permissions if required.
SketchUp works with Linux under Wine. Since the engineeringtoolbox plugin use the SketchUp Webdialog feature implemented only for IE on Windows and Safari on Mac - IE on Wine is probably required. This is not tested and feedback is wanted.
After loading Sketchup and the Engineering ToolBox from the menu - navigate to the wanted component in the navigation menu above - and select "insert" to add the wanted component to your SketchUp model.
Note! The SketchUp Engineering Toolbox is an online resource updated continuously. You need internet connection to operate.
For some components parameters like length, color, offset and more can be modified before insertion.
Customized components can be inserted by changing parameters in the dialog boxes at the end of the component lists - and clicking "custom!"
Selected objects in the model can be manipulated - rotated, moved, colors changed and more - from the Tools section.
Assistant objects like lines, horizontal and vertical planes can be added.

Organize your model in groups -
add components to the
Example: Use separate groups for construction steel, piping, the different HVAC systems and more.
Always keep an eye on the model in the "Outliner" window.
Use layers to organize and control the visibility of the model.
The most convenient way to copy an object is by selecting it, using move or (m) and pressing Ctrl (makes a copy) before moving.
Use the rotation tool on this page to precise rotations of components like bends, pipes ...
Precise moving of a object can be done by selecting a point in the object that can be connected to a point in the new position (like a edge on a component, surface, a midpoint or similar).
Be aware that objects from The Engineering ToolBox are inserted in Sketchup as Groups. They will show up in the Sketchup > Window > Outliner dialog but not in the Sketchup > Window > Model Info > Statistics (Only Components) dialog.
If you want to make "Bill of Materials" from your model
The objects will now show up in the Sketchup > Window > Model Info > Statistics dialog and be available for reporting through Sketchup > File > Generate Report feature or other third party report generators.
An insterted object from The Engineering ToolBox can also be converted to a Component by right clicking the object and selecting Make Component. The name will not be preserved and must be changed after the conversion.
Due to the way Internet Explorer (used by Sketchup in the Web Dialoges) handles its cache there may be occasionally scripting problems in Windows.
Just reload the window - use F5 - to refresh the cache.
Note! - it is highly recommended to use alt. 1, 2 or 3 for the installation since
these alternatives works online and always use the latest version of the
- and updating of the extension/plugin on the local computer is almost never required.
But - the computer need to be connected to the internet for the extension to work.
A local installation on the local computer is possible for users who want the extension/plugin to work without an internet connection. But - be aware that the installation is a bit cumbersome and that updates and upgrades must be manually maintained by downloading and installing new versions to the local computer. It also takes time before changes are updated in the offline installation file.
